Internships:
Communications Intern, Lyric Hammersmith

In January 2011 Sarah completed a three month internship with the communications department at the Lyric Hammersmith.

Her responsibilities included:
  • Assisted on the press and marketing campaigns for their productions, both shows beating their financial targets.
  • Re-organised the existing press archive and collected new digital and print press clippings.
  • Assisted with the filming for a feature on the BBC London News, on ‘Twisted Tales’.    
  • Co-ordinated the preparation and the distribution of the direct mail, enlisting the help of the work experience placements. 
  • Compiled and sent out the weekly internal Press Report.       
  • Researched into different areas such as the cost of advertising in different publications and new press contacts for specific areas.  
  • Supported the press manager by answering press queries.      
  • Gained experience of using Photoshop, Final-Cut Pro and of updating their website.
  • Completed a research project into the perception of Lyric Hammersmith and its relationship with the community.

Marketing Intern, BBC National Orchestra of Wales
During august 2010, Sarah completed a month internship within the marketing department at the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. 

Her responsibilities included: 
  • Helping with the marketing launch of the new season of concerts.
  • Proof reading brochures.   
  • Preparing marketing material for distribution.   
  • Researching where to distribute specialised student flyers and distributing it to specific organisations.
  • Contributed to department meetings discussing ideas for the next advertising campaign and researching cost.
  • Completed a research project on their use of social media, proposing changes that the orchestra could implement based on case studies of other arts organisations.

Work Experience, Wales Millennium Centre
Whilst completing her A levels Sarah spent a week in the programming department helping with an education day, stewarding and recording audience attendance at the centre's free lunch time concerts, calling prospective group tour customers, assisting with tours of the centre, distributing an open casting call to local schools and collecting and collating feedback from schools who had visited education days at the centre.
